Blood of poisoned earth, heart of unyielding stone, beware the Twisted King, who sits upon the throne…
After three years in college, my life is pretty predictable.
Lectures. Soccer. Sleep. Repeat.
And with only one year left at Dartmouth, it’s time to let go of childhood fantasies and focus on the real world awaiting me.
But it only takes one moment—one trivial action—and everything I know is gone.
Ripped from my world, I’ve fallen (literally) straight into a land where fires roar across the horizon and shadows cover the sky. And just before I crash into the harsh terrain below, someone—or something—catches me.
Except this new land is no fairytale.
And instead of a handsome prince, my savior is a furious beast of a man with an army of horribly misshapen creatures. Untrusted, I quickly find myself locked within his castle in this land of ash and decay.
His people want me gone.
His enemies want me dead.
But this vicious king claims that I may be the only one who can break the curse that has ruined his kingdom.
And it’s starting to seem like the only way to free myself . . . is to save the Twisted King.

This book had a really good idea and started out very nicely. A beauty and the beast retelling essentially, something I normally love to read. Unfortunately the author tired to make this a slow burn and it turned into basically a no burn. The story line doesn't really progress at all. And the characters are lack luster to say the least. A personal thing that I hate when authors jump time, putting "two weeks later" into a story is lazy to me. In some books and situations it fits but it this one it was just used at a place filler to hurry the story along, but it didn't even do that. Its honestly really annoying because it leaves crucial information out of the novel or nothing has changed in the period of time thats claimed to have passed so there was no point in including it in the first place. most of the time I think authors write in time passing is because they need to justify the romance not happening at first sight, but to imply that their relationship has progressed without including it into the story is the exact opposite reason I read a romance in the first place. Reading romance is about falling in love with the characters themselves, but also about falling in love with the characters love.
