Earl of Kendal, the 26th book in the Wicked Earls' Club series, was about Adolphus Merrick, the third Earl of Kendal, a man with a past he was not proud of and quite a few secrets, and Lady Sophia Stopford, the youngest child of the Earl of Gullsville, whose father was insisting that she marry one of his associates, Mr. Mongerton, the owner of a gaming hell called the Fox Hole, a man over twice her age. After speaking with Merrick and learning the way to make whisky, Sophia sneaked out of her father's home and made her way to Scotland in the hopes of earning her own way and avoiding the forced marriage. Her father, upon the realization she had disappeared, went to Lord Merrick and blackmailed him into finding and then marrying Sophia. With no other choice, Merrick agreed. After having chased Sophia to Scotland, and then having to give further chase after she runs from him twice, Merrick informed her, at her insistence, as to why he would have to marry her. The emotions that ran the gamut in this book were off the chain. The angst was high at points, as was the drama, intrigue, and chemistry. The passion was...sizzling, but not so hot to burn the reader ;). This book will definitely be added to the Keeper for the Shelves collection.
