“Marry me.”
“What?” I stared back at him, unblinking.
He moved closer, taking my face in his hands. “I love you, Evie. I look into the future, and the only thing I see clearly is you. Marry me.”

What’s an eighteen-year-old girl who was madly in love with her nineteen-year-old boyfriend say?

Of course, I said yes.

Twenty-four hours later, I married Adam Gunner at a Vegas chapel to the sounds of “Livin’ on a Prayer” by Bon Jovi. Not the best omen. I get that now.

Then, exactly one week later, I left him. I walked out, leaving behind my wedding ring, annulment papers, and my heart, and he never knew why.

I haven’t seen him since. Not in ten long years.

Now, he’s here, standing before me. Looking at me with nothing but hurt and hatred in his eyes, he wants answers.

Answers I can’t give.

Unlike below, I actually liked the book! Loved the characters and the storyline. Yes, the MIL did have something to do with things, but that's part of the book. I do feel like things were left unsaid, like HOW Adam hired a PI and never found Evie...even though she lived one town over? I figured the MIL paid the guy to keep quite, but it was never brought back up. I enjoyed the book though.

Honestly thought this was gonna have a far more good story and twist than the old and overused "tHe eVil mOthEr-iN-LaW mAdeE dO iT"

I figured it all out in the fucking first page. The past flashbacks of blossoming young love were cute enough ig but holy shit Adam is an annoying, whiny stubborn piece of shit from the get go and didn't see reason as for Evie well let's say there's a reason spineless female characters are so well loved by contemporary romance authors 🙄

it's sort of a DNF 'cause I thought the angst advertised in the blurb was gonna be enough to save this tragedy.

Young love between a rich yt guy with burdens (wealth oooh the tragedy) falls for petite blonde girl from other sides of the tracks with a dying baby sister they get married as teens, mOthEr-iN-LaW interferes, they break off for decade, find each other again, they hate fuck til everything boils over down to the fucking "epic" reveal, another breakup, they make-up the fucking end.
