Let me be honest for a sec. This honestly has such prejudiced, judgemental vibes, and you can tell that the author has been through this same situation but in the worse, more realistic way. There's such hatred for Gloria, a woman who enjoys casual relationships and recreational drug use, that I would not be even remotely surprised if the author was an "alpha male" trying infiltrate the space. A. there's no actual romance or progression in the relationship and nothing really happens in the relationship itself. Putting this in the romance category, in my opinion, is ridiculous. B. the slut-shaming is off. the. charts. There's so much. It's so gratuitous that I actually like Gloria out of spite for the male lead and his cohorts. It just feels misogynistic. C. the insane moral grandstanding. It's low-key incredible (derogatory). D. Last one, you can tell two things about the author based off this work. The first, is that this is reflective of her own experiences to some extent, and the second is that she harbours the most terrific quantity of contempt and blind-sided hatred for a very specific type of woman. This story comes off as a revenge fantasy, where everything ends on the upside for the most annoying type of person. I personally will die on the hill that this would have been better if this had been a toxic romance between Gloria and Rick. That would have been magnificent.
