I’ve always been my own best company…until I meet a ray of sunshine who makes me question my solitude.

If only she hadn’t been wandering through the woods alone.
If only she hadn’t lost her footing while trying to cross the creek.
If only she hadn’t gotten knocked unconscious.

I could have minded my own business and let this city girl wander past without even noticing me. Instead, I’m carrying her limp body to my cabin.
But now that she’s warm, dry, and unable to tell me her name, I can’t just send her on her way, especially not during the raging storm that’s flooding roads and washing out bridges.
I also can’t bear the thought of letting her go, which is ridiculous since we seem to be polar opposites.
Is it worth risking my heart when the passing of the storm will carry her of my life as quickly as I carried her in? It’s been a long time since I trusted my heart.
