Three Matings And A Baby, Book 3 of the Mating Mayhem trilogy, was about all four main characters from the first two books: Reese and Jolie Lassiter from Book 1, and Dane Lassiter and his mate, Shana Nichols from Book 2. Jolie was nearing the due date to deliver her second baby, and Reese was nearing a nervous breakdown worrying about her. Especially since he hadn't been there for the pregnancy or birth of his son, Bryce. Also, he was worried because Jolie had nearly died. He couldn't bear to lose her again. Dane and Shana, who had been planning a mating ceremony in the last chapter of Book 2, were suddenly encountering some major issues. This story picked up with Dane's "kidnapping" of Shana from her wedding. It began from Reese's point of view where he was fielding all the irate phone calls demanding for him to do something about his brother and see that Shana was returned unharmed. The prologue covered the epic battle between the two brothers, and the claiming of the Alpha role by Dane. There was only a little bit of angst, a touch of drama, and a slight bit of conflict that involved Shana's father. But other than that, the novella had a smooth flow that incorporated the mating ceremony of three fated mating couples (hence the title "THREE matings"). After the ceremony and feast, there was the traditional hunt that the pack would go on. Once they had all taken off, Shana realized that Jolie was in labor. Had, in fact, been in labor for hours. She hadn't said anything because she didn't want Reese to miss the hunt. Her belief that Reese would "lose his mind" if he saw her in labor was her reasoning behind hiding her labor pains. She believed she was protecting him. But as her pains got closer together, and the midwife escorted her to the birthing room, Jolie hadn't taken into account two things. First was that Reese and the three newly married shifters had chosen to hunt close to the house. Second, she had forgotten her four-year-old son, Bryce, was within hearing distance. When he heard his mommy crying in agony, he went in search of his beloved papa. Once Reese was alerted, he rushed back to the house, arriving in time to witness the birth of their second child. While this was the shortest book of the three, it was a great ending to the series. The only thing that would have improved it is if the epilogue from Book 2 had been switched with the epilogue in this book because the other one had too many spoilers to have been in Book 2. That being said, this little novella earned a five-star rating, mainly because it was the best of the three books, combined. It will also be added to the Keeper for the Shelves collection.
