The gossips say his soul is as black as his cravats.
Handsome, enigmatic Duncan Kirkwood is the prince of London’s most exclusive—and wicked—gaming club. He founded his empire upon one goal: gaining vengeance against the man who sired him and abandoned his mother.
To society, Lady Frederica Isling is a quiet, proper duke’s daughter and wallflower. No one suspects she harbors a secret desire to become a renowned novelist. She’ll go to any lengths to conduct research for her manuscript, including infiltrating Kirkwood’s notorious club disguised as her brother.
It doesn’t take long for Duncan to realize the oddly garbed stranger penning notes at his hazard table is not who she pretends to be. When he discovers her identity holds the key to the revenge he’s been waiting for, he can’t believe his good fortune. But there’s something about Lady Frederica that stirs more than his desire for retribution.
Frederica finds herself drawn to the charming Mr. Kirkwood and curious about the darker side of the world she never knew existed. She knows she should stay far away from him and his life of sin, and yet she keeps returning for more.
As Duncan and Frederica become hopelessly entangled in each other’s lives, passion blossoms. With reprisal within his grasp at last, Duncan must make the impossible choice between gaining his revenge and persuading the woman who owns his heart to take the biggest gamble of all.

Prince of Persuasion, Book 2 of the Sins and Scoundrels series, was about Mr. Duncan Kirkwood, the owner of The Duke’s Bastard, London’s most exclusive gaming club (as well as the illegitimate son to the Duke of Amberly), and Lady Frederica "Freddy" Isling, daughter to the Duke of Westlake, sister to the Marquess of Blanden. While working the floor of his club one night, Duncan took notice of an unusual male character taking copious notes while wandering through the club. Oddly stimulated by the sight, it wasn't long before he realized the person he was observing was the furthest thing from male as a person could get. Dressed as her brother, the Marquess of Blanden, Frederica entered The Duke's Bastard in order to do research for a novel she was currently writing. Hoping to not get discovered and, therefore, ruined, she surreptitiously watched the goings-on around her. When Duncan realized who she was, and to whom her parents were desiring her to marry, he believed her foray into his club to be quite fortuitous. For with her appearance in such an unsavory place for a woman to appear, he believed he could use her in his vengeance against his father and half-brother, the Earl of Willingham. This girl was decidedly annoying as a Heroine. She was arrogant, self-centered, self-absorbed, and did not care whether or not she created a scandal. In fact, she thought it might be a good thing to have her reputation utterly ruined so as to avoid any unwanted marriage her parents saw fit to push her into. I can't say I liked her one bit. Duncan, determined to exact vengeance upon his father, used Fredericka's visits to his club in order to gain what he needed from her father in order to use the information to bring his father to his knees...even after he had fallen in love with her. This book was so full of angst and drama that it was nearly overpowering. There was no humor to break the tension created by the characters' actions and it made it almost impossible to bear. While there was passion, it didn't really fit with the storyline. The twists and turns were arduous and heart-wrenching at the same time. While the story was a good one, it left much to be desired. If it hadn't been so bogged down with angst and drama, if there had been even a smidge of lightness at all, it would have been worth the read. But when a novel is so heavy that it feels like wading through quicksand, it tends to make the reader regret attempting the reading. That was pretty much what happened, minus the regret. It still was a good book. Just not five-star worthy.
