A rogue ruined…

He is the Killer Duke, accused of murdering Mara Lowe on the eve of her wedding. With no memory of that fateful night, Temple has reigned over the darkest of London’s corners for twelve years, wealthy and powerful, but beyond redemption. Until one night, Mara resurfaces, offering the one thing he’s dreamed of… absolution.

A lady returned…

Mara planned never to return to the world from which she’d run, but when her brother falls deep into debt at Temple’s exclusive casino, she has no choice but to offer Temple a trade that ends in her returning to society and proving to the world what only she knows… that he is no killer.

A scandal revealed…

It’s a fine trade, until Temple realizes that the lady—and her past—are more than they seem. It will take every bit of his strength to resist the pull of this mysterious, maddening woman who seems willing to risk everything for honor… and to keep from putting himself on the line for love.

Sarah MacLean's writing is as always good and the dialogue was interesting and even witty at times. But the heroine is this one... Oh boy! She is serious bad news for the hero and that is the understatement of the year. I never completed this book even though I've read the other books in this series multiple times because I reach the point where Temple gets stabbed and I'm forced to DNF due to rage. The heroine is a bitch who ruins his life repeatedly and has the gall to keep the only thing he wants from her. The Truth. Bitch you owe him the truth, you ruined his life. But she keeps playing games and bargains for it playing on his desperation. I hate innocent victim trope in books but at least their tormentors get their comeuppance in the end in most of them. Here the bitch heroine gets a HEA. This is a pure definition of a good but dim man caught in a toxic relationship and the author wants us to go 'Awww' over it. I just can't.. DNF for the 4th and last time.
