Three things I’ve learned this week:
1) Never fall for a client
2) Never fall for your best friend
3) And most importantly, never fall for your back-up guy
…especially if they’re all the same person.
I’m the queen of dating disasters—I’ve had more rotten dates than you can shake a long stemmed rose at. After years of one disappointment after another, I’m beginning to feel like I’ll never say “I do.”
So after being dumped one too many times I do something stupid:
I make a pact with my best friend Asher. If neither of us are married by 35, we tie the knot. That’s five full years of searching for The One.
I’ve got to meet Mr. Right by then, don’t I?
Except when I take a job redecorating Asher’s bachelor pad, I realize he’s a lot different from the guy I thought he was. Against all odds, I find myself falling for my best friend. Maybe my back-up guy could be The One after all?
Except there’s only one problem…
My back-up guy has a secret that could ruin everything.

Goodness, less than halfway through this book and I am torturing myself to read ahead. This book is messed up. With no intention whatsoever to sound overly clinical, I don't like what's in there. We have a 30 year old female who is obsessed with the 'woman's ticking bomb' and decides to find the right one to be happily married and have kids. While yes, it's practical for those who want to give birth to kids to think a bit about that, she goes a bit obsessive. Then she gets a pet dog - guess what? The store she gets it from is more or less a dog cult. She decides to be stubborn and not get the dog into puppy training until multiple incidents of the dog destroying things happen. Plus, she accidentally finds Asher's so called secret and can't keep it in her mouth and spills it to her friends, without him knowing that she knows his secret. Yeah .... not cool at all. On to Asher, the author depicts him as the typical hot guy who's smooth with flirting and all. And that's okay, many of us like reading books with such male leads. Guess what's irritating? When the author adds a scene about how every single woman he talks to other than the friends smiles at him because a) he is drop dead gorgeous b) a smooth talker. It's funny a time or two, but reading it every single time is annoying because that means the author thinks that the supporting characters don't need much character depth. Another thing is how the author depicts the 'hot guy' mentality. 'Oh that guy is hot, want me to match you up?' Hello? Average but better personality guys? Plus, some of the things about 'girls' and 'guys' are so stereotyped in the book, it's plainly annoying. 'Oh you don't eat a salad? You're not like other girls.' That's when you should leave your date hanging. 'Guys don't watch chick flicks.' Hello? They do, you need to know more guys.

All things aside, it feels like a terrible attempt at humour that just turned out wrong, messed up, weird and annoying. I might leave another review after ending the novel if I feel like it's any different but 14 chapters in and I regret reading it.
