A spirited young lady with a dream. A duke in disguise. A compromising situation.
Lucy hates dukes.
One in particular: her best friend’s brother, the arrogant Duke of Ashmore. A man she’s never met. Because of him, she’s lost the only home she’s ever known.
She can’t forgive that. Ever.
Lucy loves gardeners.
One in particular: the charming Henry whose eyes shine in a million colours of blue. How lovely would life be if she were a simple gardener’s wife?
What if…
… that charming gardener reveals himself to be the Duke of Ashmore? Will she ever be able to embrace who he is?
Leaving cheerful mayhem in her wake as she overturns the duke’s estate, his house, and his entire life, Lucy is certain of one thing: she loves the gardener, not the duke.
As they match wits, Lucy learns he is not the arrogant duke she thought.
Who exactly is this man, this Duke of Secrets? When scandal strikes and her past catches up with her, Lucy faces an impossible dilemma.
Will her love ruin those dearest to her heart? For the Duke of Secrets is not the only one wearing a disguise.

Although I agree with Kiley O that the initial encounter of Henry and Lucy didn’t start off the best, and that “charming”doesn’t quite fit his persona, by the end of their first day together, the two main characters appeared quite comfortable with each other and I could see the chemistry blooming. It was not the hot spicy sizzling thing one might expect from a romance, but more subtle and realistic. (Especially considering Henry’s personality 😅) I also did get a bit annoyed with Lucy’s blabbering at the beginning and because of her, things seemed to speed forward super quickly in the early chapters…. Thankfully, it became bearable as the story progressed. I’m quite happy I stuck past chapter 3, as the story was utterly entertaining and surprising all the way to the end. I barely noticed the rare change in perspectives as they seemed relatively well placed, and I thoroughly enjoyed the book! I genuinely can’t wait to see what adventures come next in novel of the series. :)

P.S. Also, I quite sac-religiously enjoyed the perspective of reading the second book first…. It made it quite intriguing in a different sort of way. :3

Let's get one thing straight, the above blurb said that the "gardener", Henry was charming. The blurb on Goodreads declared, "Henry is everything she has ever wanted: charming, caring, and kind". However, at the first meeting of Henry and Lucy, the "gardener" was anything but those things. He was surly and not very likable...for a while. After delving further into the story, the reader found a few reasons for this attitude of Henry's. Then his character changed. Lucy, however, was too over-the-top for a character. She just couldn't shut her mouth and she was too overly dramatic, too boisterous...too agreeable. She was so over-the-top as to be almost unbelievable. However, as with Henry's character...once the reader has made it further into the book, the better her character was explained. It's odd how the author started out giving the point of view of both the main characters but then dropped the male character's point of view for a while. It caused a bit of anxiousness to figure out what Henry was thinking at certain points of the book. Unlike a lot of books that have a somewhat weak beginning, this book truly took off and kept the reader wondering what in the world would happen next. It had twists and turns throughout the story. It had so much humor, it caused this reader to laugh out loud often. It had drama, intrigue, and a whole lot of angst. Unfortunately, the two main characters didn't really have a lot of chemistry between them. Yes, there was...some...chemistry, but it was downplayed greatly. There was a bit of passion and romance, but even those were weaker than most readers would expect. With that being said, this book does...barely...earn the Keeper for the Shelves award.
