For fans of Crazy Rich Asians or Jane Austen Comedy of Manners, with a hint of La La Land

When eighteen-year-old Ever Wong’s parents send her from Ohio to Taiwan to study Mandarin for the summer, she finds herself thrust among the very over-achieving kids her parents have always wanted her to be, including Rick Woo, the Yale-bound prodigy profiled in the Chinese newspapers since they were nine—and her parents’ yardstick for her never-measuring-up life.

Unbeknownst to her parents, however, the program is actually an infamous teen meet-market nicknamed Loveboat, where the kids are more into clubbing than calligraphy and drinking snake-blood sake than touring sacred shrines.

Free for the first time, Ever sets out to break all her parents’ uber-strict rules—but how far can she go before she breaks her own heart?

Beautiful writing style and a smooth, captivating read. The 18 years old Asian American female protagonist goes through her journey of self-discovery while meeting her home culture and other kids with similarities and unique differences from her. Abigail introduced me to the rich culture of Taipei with her vivid language illustrating the landscapes and atmosphere and blending it seamlessly with the plotline. It is good to see how the protagonist was able to embrace her culture and fully accept it as part of her identity in the end. Pleasant read.

Loveboat is such a heartfelt book for me. As someone close to her age I can only imagine the difficulties she went through. Its romance spices things up and I probably ended up screaming by the end of each chapter. I strongly advise anyone who loves a romance book to check this out. Abigail Hing Wen has written this book so well I can't describe it. Even though its a romance book, You will end up crying near the end of the book. If Abigail Hing Wen is reading this comment I really would appreciate if you wrote many other books like this one.Even though I have only read 1 book you seem to be my favourite romance writer currently. Oh and hopefully Everret gets to have the life she wants in the end.
