Lord Robert Melton is a successful barrister in London. Despite having the knack of speaking amongst his peers, he is incredibly shy when in the presence of a lady. As always, he returns to his family’s country estate in the off-Season to enjoy the beauty and tranquility of Weymouth. That is where he meets the beautiful Lady Julia, a woman who instantly calms him and brings him out of the shell of his reserved nature.

Julia is in Weymouth as a companion to her Great-Aunt Arabella. It is there that her cousin Freddy arrives unexpectedly and demands his Aunt settle all his gambling debts, and makes unwelcome advances on Julia. The two women seek the help of their barrister neighbour Lord Robert, and it is there Julia finds a true gentleman.

But Freddy will not be put off so easily. He is determined to marry Julia, even if it means he has to ruin her to do it.

Lord Robert and His Bride, Book 2 of The Duke's Brothers series (which should have been named "The Duke and His Brothers, since Book 4 is about the Duke himself), was about Lord Robert Melton, the second brother to Charles Melton, the Duke of Waign, and Miss Julia Gould, grand-niece to Lady Arabella, neighbor to the Melton family. Julia was spending the summer with Lady Arbella, her great-aunt, as she had for the past several summers. When Arabella's grandson showed up, uninvited, unwelcome, and demanding she pay off his debts, Arabella sent Julia to the Duke's home to ask for Robert's assistance with dealing with him. Robert made several inquiries about Julia's cousin, Freddy, to find out how deep his debt went and what could be done to prevent him from further harassing Arabella and Julia. While waiting for a response, Julia was threatened repeatedly by her cousin and Robert was determined to ensure her safety. This book moved at a faster pace than the first one and therefore any chemistry between Robert and Julia did not truly have time to develop properly. There were hints at a possible passion, but it just simmered below the surface. There was a touch of angst and drama, but more than anything all that really happened was that Robert's siblings went overboard about his inability to interact with women on a general basis. The brothers often overstepped the boundaries of teasing and were sometimes even cruel in their treatment of Robert. As fast as this book maneuvered, it really didn't have the time to truly form a good romance novel. More than anything, it could have been described as a mere outline of a possible book that really never developed into a complete story. It lacked completion. That being said, I couldn't give this book even a 4-star rating, nor could I add it to the Keeper for the Shelves collection. If the author were to revamp the story, add a little more meat to the bones, and fill it out with ... anything, actually. It was like being offered a steak and only being given a seasoned bone with no meat.
