This has such high potential. But needs more effort. Too many plot threads left unfinished. 3.5/5

I really enjoyed the core romance and the unique premise—there’s definitely charm in Rebel Carter’s storytelling. The bond between the librarian and the bear was compelling, and the emotional beats had promise. However, the book felt unfinished in key ways.

There were several plot threads that didn’t get the attention they deserved. Emmet’s backstory, for example, felt underdeveloped. Why is he so wealthy? Is his librarian job just a front? These questions are never really addressed. The mysterious woman he’s seen with raises serious concerns too—was he being unfaithful during that moment? And why didn’t he ever explain the situation to Birdie? She clearly witnessed something painful and confusing, yet we never got closure on that moment.

Even the magical bond storyline left me with more questions than answers. While Birdie is suffering emotionally and physically, Emmet is physically touching someone else? That scene felt especially troubling, and it needed more narrative weight or clarity.

Ultimately, while I liked the book, it left me feeling like too much was left on the cutting room floor. There’s definitely a great story here, but it needed more time to fully unfold.
