He’s the oldest of his kind. Terrifying. I’m human, insignificant, scared and scarred. It shouldn’t be too hard to escape his notice. But wait…why is he walking over here? He…wants to dine with me. No. He must want more…
Justice dealer of the seven regions, Lahve is tasked with maintaining order. His focus should be on that, not on a female who is too young for him by several hundred lifetimes.
She has been scarred by this world and Lahve cannot undo her past. She wants to be left alone, but he cannot do that, either. Because when enemy gangs move to overtake their community, he needs her help to track them into Population and cut them off.
She fears recapture, but how can he make her understand that he is the most powerful creature in this world and he will slaughter any who venture too close? Because she is the only human who has ever made him feel what he’s never felt:
Human.
And, if she does not agree to help him hunt down their shared enemies, humanity itself may be lost.
He looks at me like I’m crazy when I show up to dinner with…expectations, because he has expectations, too…like helping him save the world.

Island Living

Lovely idea. I love the premise. I don't think the execution really did justice to of the premise though. It's a good book, but not a great one. It has a some good funny one-liners too.

CONS- Which is all that I will talk about.

  1. I didn't feel the gravity of Lahve's decision in choosing Candy. I wanted to feel the impact instead of being told about it.

  2. I wanted more internal conflict for the Lahve. The man is doing something that has grave political and social implications, I wanted him to struggle over that. I wanted him to struggle between duty and desire before he came to a decision.

  3. I also wanted the Natore Council to have been present in this books, even for a bit. Hell!!! There jury, judge and executor is developing feelings and deviating from eons of traditions and structure. I wanted them to complain, I wanted them to whine and have a mental break down. I wanted the world to burn (in a manner of speaking).

  4. The Humans were FAAAR too casual with the Lahve. I get that some of them don't have a full appreciation of him, being that he is not a earthling and all that. BUT, NAAH. They are far too comfortable disrespecting him and casually speaking to him. The first Book provides does him justice. I wanted the humans to react to the presence , that Abel nicely mentions in Book 1, that the Lahve has. I want them to be uncomfortable in his presence, irritated when they hear his voice and fearful when his eyes land on them. Even if he begins to seem more humane to the rest of Brianna, it would take him years, time, to undo years of conditioning, teachings and principles to be able to integrate himself into humanity.

4.5. Lahve was waaay too casual. Come on my dude. The things he did, the things he said, his manner of speaking and even his reactions to the other humans were a let down. This book would have been an amazing way to investigate how he really viewed his time on Earth; through the lens of the anointed judge, jury and executor. I wanted more mentally stimulating thoughts and statements from him. I wanted him to be placed in situations where his decision making capabilities and his wisdom really shone through. We get glimpses of it in the story but, if this man is suppose to be a walking fountain of wisdom, we need more. He also needed to be more socially awkward. This would have been the first time that he was entering into a romantic relationship, I wanted that discomfort to be present. Awkward silence, saying the wrong things, being aloof, all of that.

  1. I wanted to see a bit more of the extent of the Lahve's abilities. We know that he is strong, the strongest and he has some amazing abilities, but I wanted more of that. Show me that he is strong, don't tell me. Even if I didn't know the full extent, I would love if the reverence that the other Hets showed him give us an idea of his abilities. I would love if He could even wipe memories, imprint false memories, make a person go insane, something else. I wanted people to fear his touch and his very nature. Didn't get that.
