How to mend a broken heart, and definitely not fall in love again.

Remember when I said I’d never love again? Turns out, my first instinct was right—I really can’t afford to.
I went from hiding my omega status to living with four alpha mates, only to have my heart shattered into a million pieces. Now, instead of trying to keep alphas, I’m back to losing them—and myself—as fast as possible.
Malachi, Quinn, Dash, and Zane think they can win me back, but trust isn’t exactly my strong suit. And just when I think things can’t get any worse… my past comes knocking. Loudly.
My ex is back, and he’s not just after me anymore. He’s targeting the pack, the home, the life I almost had. And he’s not alone.
Now I have to decide if I can trust the alphas who broke me, keep my ex from destroying everything, and, oh yeah, try not to get myself killed in the process.
Did I mention I’m also dealing with my first heat in years? Because apparently, the universe thinks I need more complications.
They say love gives second chances, but what happens when you’re too scared to take one? I guess it’s time to find out if this omega has what it takes to not just survive, but to dare to love again.

Spoiler alert: It’s going to be one hell of a week. And this time, I’m not sure my heart will make it out in one piece.

Brief Happenstance
Brief Happenstance

This book feels like a sequel to a different first book. The characters in the first book started out as great, ideal guys, but somehow got re-characterized into jerks that needed redemption. This entire book is a series of redemption arcs for bad behavior that was either blown out of proportion or didn't happen. Zane was a supportive guy who really became a jerk when he found out she was lying because of his own trauma. She knew that would happen and never apologized for her own mistakes. Malachi lost sight of things but tried to talk every issue out to take care of everyone. Quinn and Dash were great. The nice guy and the golden retriever. Neither had a misstep. Yet all four were treated like villains who had a ton of making up to do. If one read this book without reading the first, they would have a really off perception of what must have happened in the first book. The central focus also seriously changes, going from "My ex is out to get me so I'll hide. Oh here are these alphas, I'll avoid them. Oh wait, they're pretty great! Maybe they can protect me or maybe I'll ruin them. Oh no my ex is coming and may kill us all!" to "Wow these awful exes are trying to woo me again. Oh yeah, I have a mean ex right? Oh these Alphas are improving! Good job boys, you've become acceptable now. Oh yeah my ex is asking me to come back, let's get him." When she finally opens up to the pack about what the evil ex Noah did, it's not all the dark things hinted at in the first book. After the author pushes you to imagine the worst, the actual bad feels anticlimactic. That word sums up the whole conclusion of the book.
