My heart’s a mess, but my quirky hometown and its charming veterinarian might have all the right remedies.
The last place I thought I’d be after becoming a successful pediatrician is back in my hometown of Button Blossom. I was supposed to be traveling the world, running medical clinics for underprivileged children, with a man who should have proposed by now.
Instead, he dumped me. I think his exact words were, “Let’s take a break.”

With my life on hold, I’ve sought refuge in my old room in the family farmhouse, trying to keep a low profile as I run a mobile pediatric clinic for the community. It’s not all bad. The work is satisfying, and I have a great view of the veterinarian across the street. Milo Fox didn’t earn the moniker of Dr. Foxy without being the hottest bachelor in a 50-mile radius.
With my heart in tatters over Greg, I’m not looking to start anything new, especially with Milo. There are too many roadblocks, from our age gap to his pre-teen daughter, who isn’t convinced I’m not out to become her evil stepmother. The spark she insists she’s seen between us isn’t helping my case.
It’s just, every time I bump into Milo, he reminds me over and over how incredible he is. Whether he’s carrying me down a rocky trail after I twist my knee, helping me milk the world’s most annoying goat (it’s a long story…), or simply aiming an adorably crooked smile at me, Milo is hard to keep at arm’s length.
Gah! I shouldn’t think about his arms… his biceps are practically legendary.
With Greg knocking on the door, offering the perfect life he thinks I should want, I hesitate. Milo has snagged a piece of my heart, and I’m not sure I can let go. But I can’t hog him all to myself, especially when there’s a line out the door of other ladies who are batting their eyelashes at him.
Maybe I want to keep Milo to myself. Maybe forever.
