From One Night To Desert Queen, Book 2 of The Diamond Inheritance series, was about Star Soames and Sheikh Khalif "Kal" Al Azhar. Star, the middle sister of the three Soames sisters, was also the more romantic of the three. When their maternal grandfather died, they were informed by his attorney that they would inherit his estate...if they were to complete the task described in his will. They were given two months to locate the Soames diamonds that had been lost for 150 years. One of the sisters had to reside at the estate for the entirety of the two months. If they did not complete the task in the specified time, the entire estate would revert back to the National Trust. With Skye off in Costa Rica in search of a map that they believed was necessary for locating the jewels, Star traveled to a small country in the middle east to find a key that was the next step of the journey. While studying the paintings in the art gallery near the royal palace, Star met "Kal", not realizing he was the heir apparent to the throne. Khalif, frustrated with all his royal duties, was running away from a meeting that had left him frustrated and angry. As he noticed his security team was huddled around a monitor, he strolled in to see what had captured their attention. Upon seeing a British tourist lingering near a particular painting, Kal was strongly drawn to her to the point he just had to meet her, so he wandered into the art gallery, only to find himself more and more intrigued by her with each passing moment. This story had more pain, angst, and drama in it than even the first book in the series had contained. While there was more passion and chemistry in this novel, there was definitely more heartache. The main male character, while still a bit arrogant, was decidedly more human than one would expect an author to write into their book...a good thing, though. It made him more real. The main female character was a bit less believable though. She was decidedly too outspoken and too friendly to complete strangers. Most such characters who had visited a foreign country would have been more reserved when encountering members of the opposite sex, but Star was just too forward. There were plenty of twists and turns in the story, but even those were not enough to give this book a five-star rating.
