This was ok, a second chance, cheating book albeit emotional cheating. No spice, this was strictly about a pregnant couple. The wife is getting all the attention and focus for her pregnancy as their elderly neighbor's daughter moves in to care for him through this final days with dementia. The mmc doesn't realize what emotional infidelity is, he's just flattered by the attention from this younger woman and the 'friendship' crosses several emotional boundaries. The whole time his friends and wife are telling him 'this is inappropriate'. he doesn't listen, he misses medical appointments, he starts prioritizing this neighbor and then the whole thing blows up in his face. The poor wife, in what is supposed to be an exciting and happy time, suffers and loses her sense of safety and security. The rest of the book is mmc's groveling to fix things.
The writing was good, the author does well conveying her character's emotions. It drag a little and rose, the antagonist, got a little cartoon-y at the end but, overall, I would say it's a decent book. Not must-read, but worthwhile if you like the occasional angst-y book.
