A snow storm, a grumpy cat, a war hero, and a reckless beauty
Nineteen year-old debutant, Rose Darnell, plans to compromise the man she loves, war hero Sir Ian Temple, when he escorts her back to the country for Christmas.

Ten years her senior, Sir Ian, an ambitious politician, has no intention of falling for the wilful charmer. However, perhaps a snowstorm, two cardsharps, and a grumpy cat, can divert Sir Ian’s path from a suitably staid wife to a reckless beauty he can’t resist.

3 1/2 stars...Just out of the starting gate and I already have questions. If Sir Ian Temple's mother was a Dowager Duchess, and his elder brother was a Duke, shouldn't Ian be a Lord instead of a Sir? It never ceases to amaze me how, in books or reality, a person (or character) can so easily misjudge another person. Rose had been in love with Ian from the moment she met him, but he never gave her the time of day because Ian thought she was a spoiled, self-indulgent chit that had nothing more to her than her beauty. He believed she was vain and that she reveled in having a multitude of suitors, and in attending balls, routs, and soirees. Even though Ian loved Rose too, he didn't believe she would make a good wife for him because of what he deemed her bad habits and attitudes. He felt he needed a wife who would complement his political aspirations, and he did not believe Rose would ever be serious enough to be that woman. There was quite a bit of meandering in the book, but not as much as some of the others in the series. There was a wee bit of chemistry and quiet passion between the two main characters, but it was of the slow-burning variety. There was some humor, a small dab of angst, but no real drama involved to keep the two apart...except that of their own making, which was all due to a lack of communication and wrong assumptions about each other. Since this book was so short, there wasn't much to do a review on. The best that can be said about it is that the book was short and sweet, maybe even one of the better books in the entire series. Not exactly worthy of being included with the Keeper for the Shelves books, but a decent enough love story.
