A Soldier’s Defiance by Christina B. Rose

Chi: My worst nightmare has come true. A nightmare I couldn’t have even fathomed before now. My guiding lights are gone. In this blinding darkness, how will I pick up my pieces and move forward? But self-assuredness and peace of mind still slip through my fingers time and time again. Through it all, my soldier has been there, and he’s here now, as well, begging to help me lead for a while.
Those who wish to harm me are always waiting, and in times like these, they will strike when they see an opportunity. I can’t linger too long in this haze of sadness. I can’t show them my weakness.
Andy: I do what I must to do to get my needs met. I always have. However, I have never had to consider another person’s entire life in my master plans. I’ve only had to defend myself in order to rule the board.
But Chi and I are no longer playing against each other; we’re playing on the same team. Maybe it’s not what others have wanted for us, or even what we pictured for ourselves, but we are defiantly paving our own way. This might be a huge mistake. But perhaps we’ll find that together, we’re unstoppable. We might even win the whole game.
