Wanted: A countess for the most feared lord in London
With a family legacy tainted by murder and madness, Phineas Brand, the Earl of Holstoke, is having a devil of a time securing a proper wife—or even an improper one. Society misses faint at the sight of him. Matchmaking mamas scurry to avoid him. Only one woman is bold enough to keep drawing near, and she’s more scandalous than he is.

Caution: A lady’s brazen ways may lead to ruin
Lady Eugenia Huxley knows all about running aground in the marriage mart, thanks to a scandal involving a footman and too much drink. No matter. She’ll gladly pursue millinery over matrimony. But when her sister’s spurned suitor returns to London in search of a wife, she can’t resist offering him a bit of courtship advice, even if the chilly, brilliant, honorable Lord Holstoke does give her shivers—heated, head-to-toe shivers that are anything but fearful.

Danger: This match may be combustible
After a series of vicious murders brings suspicion to Holstoke’s door, Eugenia risks everything to be his alibi. The only rational remedy is to marry the minx before she generates another scandal. Yet, the dangers don’t end at the altar. A poisonous enemy coils ever closer, threatening the woman who awakens his soul. How far will he go to protect her? That may be the greatest danger of all.

A Marriage Made in Scandal, Book 8 of the Rescued from Ruin series, was about Lord Phineas Brand, the Earl of Holstoke, and Lady Eugenia "Genie" Huxley, fourth daughter of Lord Stanton Huxley, the Earl of Berne. Six years previously, Phineas had retreated to Primvale Castle, his country estate in Dorsetshire, after having courted and been refused by Lady Maureen Huxley, only to learn the truth behind several dark and demented family secrets. He returned to London in hopes of finding a bride but, given his family's notorious and scandalous history, everyone was giving him a wide berth. That is, except for one person. Lady Eugenia Huxley, Lady Maureen's younger sister. Having been the subject of a scandal herself, one that involved a footman and over-indulgence, Eugenia found herself without marriage prospects and working as a junior milliner making hats for women of the Ton. Having stayed late one night to finish an order due the next morning, Genie encountered Phineas for the first time since the scandal involving his family. Side Note: Similar to many of its predecessors, this book was long and drawn-out...as was the book just before it as I recall. It took a long time to get to the point, it dragged out information truly not pertinent to the main characters, and had way too much fluff and chapters. It was as if the author, having already written six previous stories, started grasping at straws to fill the last three books, which made very little sense. Also, the way the author introduced a particular habit Phineas had adopted was a bit...creepy. It was very strange and gave him the appearance of being quite mad, which he really was not. Once again there was more drama, angst, and intrigue than romance or passion. There was just enough humor to ease the darkness of the storyline, but it was still a heaviness that was way too thick to make a good love story. While attraction and a hint of simmering passion were apparent, it took a long time for anything to truly develop. The story was more about the intrigue and mysteries in the story than the romantic relationship that was supposed to be between the two main characters. The storyline was well written, with loads of twists and turns to keep the reader glued to the pages. All the emotions one would expect to find in a murder mystery/romance novel were present in this story. The characters were all well developed and fleshed out, each with a strength of character good enough to make them leap off the pages. The only drawback to this story was, as stated previously, its length and tendency to meander. The fluff was a major distraction and unnecessary, to be honest. It could have been shorter, which would have made it much better. While it was a decent read, it definitely did not merit a five-star rating. Neither will it be added to the Keeper for the Shelves collection.
