Theo Baker: Meeting Luca Pierce was supposed to be my salvation. He’s the only other person in the world who knows what it means to survive our ex, Damien. The only person who shares my scars, my shame, and my experiences. I didn’t expect to find him healing and happy and thriving. I also didn’t expect to find Hunter Lock. Living is exhausting, my brain is a nightmare, and being around Luca makes me feel even worse. But being around Hunter feels… different. The weight of existing lessens in his presence and around the animals on his farm. He makes me think I deserve better than what my mind has convinced me of. He makes me want better. Maybe I found my salvation in Silverpine after all.
Hunter Lock: Quitting my job as a sheriff’s deputy was an easy decision. After Dad passed, Mom needed help with her bed & breakfast and on the farm. Didn’t help anything that I lost so much faith in the system after seeing how it failed Theodore Baker and Luca Pierce. Then the very reason I lost faith in the system shows up at our bed & breakfast, and I find a new kind of faith. All it takes is one look into his sad and exhausted blue eyes, and I know I want to help him. I want him to find joy in life and in himself again. I want him to see himself the way I see him. I want to love him. I fear I’m already there.
