The Sheikh’s Shock Child, Book 42 of the One Night With Consequences series, was about Millicent "Millie" Dillinger and Sheikh Khalid al Busra bin Khalifa. Eight years had passed since Millie and Khalid had met on board his brother's yacht, the Sapphire. Millie, now the age of 23, was once again on board the same yacht, seeing him again. Eight years of holding on to a pain she could not eradicate, and the need for answers she could not find. Khalid was the only one who could provide the information she sought if only he would do so. After seeing Millie again, Khalif was determined to make her his mistress even though he knew he was searching for a wife amongst the available princesses...and he kept this from Millie. When she learned the truth, it all but sliced her open, but she held firm in her strength and left, even as it broke her heart. This book is hard to write a review on for the simple fact of the way it started out. How do you critique a story that should have had a prologue but instead started out with Chapter 1 giving a history report that was picked up 8 years later in Chapter 2 without spoiling the whole thing? There were things from the past that bound Khalid and Millie, but still held them apart at the same time. The tension in the story started from the very first chapter and never really let up till the end. Angst, drama, and even the sexual nuances were overpowering, but that did not point to a relationship that should develop. In fact, it made no sense for these two to become romantically involved. Not forgetting that all of a sudden, the pregnancy was thrown in almost as an afterthought that, if the reader hadn't seen the title of the book, would have missed because the introduction of it was so well hidden within all the unnecessary fluff. The main characters were a bit...stiff, unbelievable, and a touch unrealistic. The fast pace of the relationship just didn't make sense, and these two just didn't come off as what any avid reader of romance would ever desire for the Hero/Heroine of a love story. This wasn't romance. It was lust pure and simple, and not all appealing to read. It definitely did not deserve a one-star rating, but I couldn't give it less either. It was such a dissappointment.
