I want to preface that I enjoyed this book and despite some aspects that I will mention, it was a well written love story. The problem I've found with this series is that each book feels like its starting from within the middle of a series, despite being relatively independent stories. (The first book literally was written within another collection, in collab with other authors). This book was/is listed as the second book in the dead lands series, despite mentioning in the forward that we've "already seen a pretty bride" indicating the 3rd book. Technically the 3rd book in this series was published before the 2nd book, because it wasn't sold in print. That creates a bit of a disconnect between the time-line of events. Overall won't effect the story because Aruks tale in the 3rd book happens simultaneously as event in this book, tho some details of his eventual outcome are revealed. You will have to retreat back in time for that story. All of that can easily be ignored, the main aspect to this novel that made it read as if you skipped a huge part is that it starts with the main characters already acquainted and 6 months into their journey. They do start as passive enemies, so not romantic. The referencing of previous trials and some of their journey, It really makes a reader feel like they missed a couple chapters, if not a whole book. Will end this with a warning that the event that starts their relationship does have reference to the FMC's "virginity" being forcefully "checked" (not by the MMC) its not depicted/no details and it does not effect the FMC at all and is passed over by her. Encase anyone needs that TW. 4/5 ⭐'s

This is I think my 4th Kati Wilde book. I like the premise of the book but not the way the book read. It was honestly a little slow and could be shorten. Do remember that this was originally a podcast which would have been much better in my opinion. It doesn't read all that well. You might like it but I didn't enjoy the read despite the story
