The Greek Tycoon's Inherited Bride by Lucy Monroe, Book 2 of the Petronides Brothers Duo series, was about Spyro Petronides, Dimitrious' younger brother, and Phoebe Leonides, Dimitri's fiancee'. In order to save her father's company, Phoebe was expected to marry Dimitri Petronides, the grandson of her father's best friend. Though the two rarely ever saw each other, rarely ever spoke when in the same room, they had been united in an arranged betrothal since she was 18, even though she was in love with Dimitri's brother, Spyros. However, when Spyros refused to do anything about it but tell her his brother would make her happy, it broke her heart and she shut him out of her life in order to be able to follow through with the wedding she didn't want. Spyros, for his part, had tried to talk both his grandfather and his brother out of the marriage. But when he overheard his grandfather telling Dimitri that he would not go through a life-saving heart surgery unless Dimitri married the girl and started to work on giving him great-grandbabies, Spyros felt he had to do the honorable thing and back off, allowing the wedding to go through, even though it was breaking his heart. While attending the engagement dinner, Spyros became angry when he learned that, not only had his brother not seen his betrothed since being home, he hadn't seen her in over a year. He didn't like how Phoebe was being treated, but there was nothing he could do to change it...was there? When Dimitri and his grandfather still had not shown up, Spyros called, only to find out that the old man had suffered another heart attack. Phoebe, through all of this, learned that both she and Dimitri were being basically blackmailed by her father and his grandfather into the marriage, and became extremely angry with the two older men. Rushing to the hospital, Dimitri told both Spyro and Phoebe it was his fault that the old man had a heart attack...because he had informed his grandfather that he would not be marrying Phoebe, causing her to collapse into the nearest chair. After explaining that the reason he would not was because he had fallen in love with the woman who had been his mistress for the last year, and who was pregnant with his baby, Spyro, in anger, punched him in the face. With all of the drama and angst filling so much of this book, it was surprising how much introspection went on as well. There were more pages of inner battles for Phoebe and Spyros than there were for the entire relationship. Thoughts of what-ifs, what-might-have-been, and what should be done. There were also plenty of recriminations, accusations, outrage, and hurt feelings that indicated someone felt betrayed...and that last one was from Spyros. This book was relatively short, only seven chapters, so it moved at a lightning pace. It didn't leave a lot of room for a romance to bloom, so much of that had to be left to the reader's imagination. Although they were good friends, that didn't necessarily translate well to being lovers. The chemistry between them wasn't very obvious but, then again, that could be due to the shortness of the novella not allowing time for it to be portrayed to the reader. But even the passion was muted when the author allowed it to finally appear in the story, although the HEA was pretty well done and romantic. Still, it wasn't enough to garner this story a five-star rating. The author just did not honor these main characters with enough story to merit it. They deserved better.
