The Bride He Stole For Christmas was about Timoney George and Crete Asgar. After one look at Timoney, Crete knew he had to make her his mistress. Timoney, an innocent girl of 21, looked into the eyes of Crete and knew he was the one for her. But she made one fatal error. After being Crete's mistress for six months, she confessed her love to him...and he cut her loose. Heartbroken, Timoney returned to her family home where her uncle was determined to force her into a marriage with a man three times her age. Knowing there was nothing she could do but accept her fate, Timoney, her heart frozen and determined to accept things for what they were, prepared for her Christmas wedding. With the wedding dinner being served on Christmas Eve, Timoney wandered into the gardens of her family's estate. There, feeling numb and stone-cold, she drew all the strength she could muster to guard her heart for what was to come...only to unexpectedly encounter Crete, who tried to discourage her from going through with the wedding. Determined to not let him know how much she was still in love with him, she refused to return to London with him as he demanded. When she continually denied him what he wanted, Crete decided his only recourse was to forcibly take her back to his penthouse and do everything he could to make her see reason. This was a very short, heart-wrenching love story that was reminiscent of all the typical old Harlequin romances from years gone by. It showed the domineering millionaire who was arrogant and determined to never show emotions because of something that had hurt him in his past and the innocent virgin who made the devastating mistake of falling in love with him, only to suffer at the hands of his cruel attitude towards her. A man who truly didn't take into consideration what the woman wanted...until he "finally opened his heart and eyes to the truth". While it was a decent enough love story, and there was plenty of passion and chemistry between the two main characters, it was a bit of a disappointment as well. The characters were sad as they showed a lack of depth and were one-dimensional, stiff, and unyielding. It gave the appearance of A Christmas Carol in that the main male character had a "revelation" overnight that "woke him up" to the error of his ways. The main female character was...weak. She had started out so strong in that she stood up to the one who broke her...but that lasted less than an hour and, although she "tried" to remain firm, it didn't last long. If the author had allowed the main female character to remain strong and allowed her to have a backbone for a little longer than was allotted, this might have made a better novel. As it stands, though...it just gets a "decent" rating.
