Spoiler Alert: The Boss's Mistress, Book 1 of the Second Chance Romance series, was about Lisa Andrews, an up-and-coming author, and Kit Rydell, the owner of KR Publishing company, and her former, cheating ex-boyfriend from college. What can I say about this short story other than, don't waste your time? Not much, really. The MMC was a cheater. He cheated not once, not twice, but at least three times over a six-month period of time while they were a couple in college...and blamed HER for his cheating because she spent too much time working on her writing career than banging him. So she broke it off. Three years, 15 short stories and two full-length novels later, found Lisa being offered a 3-year, 3-book contract. What she didn't know until after she had already signed the deal was that the publishing company she was now tied to belonged to her cheating ex...who, although he was having a "current fling" with someone else, wanted her back. This book was not only poorly written, it was in just as poor taste as well. It took a mere 24 hours for the former cheating ex to talk his way back into the FMC's life and bed, and two years later for him to propose marriage to her...after she was a successful author, mind you. This was very poorly titled because she wasn't the boss's mistress. There was no intimacy during the entire story...except at the end? I think? I mean, the following was the entire "spicy scene": "He tossed her onto the bed and pounced on top of her, pinning her in place. “Too late for that now.” He dipped his head to her breast. Squealing with delight, she arched toward him, relishing his attentions. The clock on the far wall announced that it was half past six. The ceremony was at seven-thirty. Kit lifted his eyes to hers. “Kit, we’re going to be late, if we don’t leave soon. We can pick this up as soon as we’re back, though.” He shook his head. “Oh, we have time enough. Trust me.” He lavished her with kisses to all her erogenous zones, kneaded, and caressed her until she forgot about the time and the ceremony. Afterward, basking in the afterglow, she smiled up at him and snuggled into his shoulder. That did not make her his mistress, therefore the title was horrible. Do I think this guy deserved another chance? Nope, I did not. I didn't think he even made a good MMC. There was a very brief apology for his past actions, but there was nothing to show that he had changed his ways. I mean, he was sleeping with someone else while thinking he'd start things up with the FMC again, and all the effort he could put towards his "current fling was "Of course, his current fling, Marsha, might not be so thrilled at the turn of events". Yeah, great guy, huh? Not. This whole short story was a mere 10 chapters and didn't have any true plot or storyline, no angst or drama. no nothing. There wasn't any conflict no push-pull between the main characters. Just flatlined from start to finish. Nope, this only (barely) merited a one-star rating, and even that was a struggle to give. Such a disappointment. And it was the beginning of a series? Umm...no. Don't waste your time.
