I just read Of Violent Lineage by Bree and loved it. So I thought I'd check out her other books. The Rocchetti series had a lot of 4 and 5 stars so, I'm thinking another great read. Not so. I can not understand all of the rave reviews. I struggled early into The Bloody Bride, so tempted to ditch my Kindle. Geeze...even from the first few pages I was not impressed whatsoever.

The entire book seems to be narrated by Sophia. Seriously. Her internal dialogue went on chapter after chapter, her staring at every page. Where the h*llfire was Alessadro? It's like he's not important to the story.

The story begins without knowing anything about Alessandro and how he came to be paired up with Sophia in the arranged marriage. Why does he hate her so much? Why is he so friggin angry all the time? Where does he go every day? What does he do? Why doesn't he touch her more importantly, being an alpha male bad guy, why isn't he interested in having recreational fun with her in the bedroom?

A weak heroine is an immediate turn-off for me and from the very beginning, Sophia is the epitome of a self-made floor mat. She easily submits to Alessandro's every command telling him repeatedly, that she "lives" to be a good wife and raise his children. Really? She allows everyone to be condescending and rude to her, never finding her backbone. Why, after being treated so horribly by Alessandro for so long, doesn't Sophia just ask him what his problem with her is? I can see her apologizing to him when he shoots her by saying, 'Oh..I'm sorry I got in your way."

Sophia grew up in a mafia family yet once she is married to Alessandro, we see how utterly naive and ignorant she is to mafia ways. Like, "why do I need a bodyguard." Get real babe. That's pretty common in mafia families. They want to keep track of you so you don't run away..right?

The biggest issue I had was that Alessandro and Sophia expressed no love or measure of affection or respect for each other. The mafia/anti-hero books I read have a hero and heroine who have angst-filled chemistry, especially during the hate/love courtship. I care about them as people. I want to anticipate their eventual union of passion and crazy hot s*x. There is none of this in the book.

Lastly, I don't believe I have ever read a book in this genre where I have hated the hero so much. I didn't find anything redeeming about Alessandro as a man or a person. Talk about cruel, iceberg-cold, and devastatingly apathetic behavior. He proves himself to be "The Godless" on their wedding night as he readies himself to take his virgin bride. Sadly, Sophia just goes along with it. She is so selfless, "so perfect" as Alessandro tells her. He antagonizes, berates her, laughs at her, even telling her, "You're so perfect, just like a trained monkey." Does she feel insulted or get upset? Nope.. Never.. She values her impeccable manners more than her self-worth.

I read a few chapters into book 2 hoping I'd find some promise of Alessandro and Sophia finding their way to one another but nothing changes from what was going on in Bloody Bride. I won't be reading further.

the way sophia uses her talents to make her position in the rocchetti family was a nice change, she knew what her charms were & how to use them into (eventual) places of power (for a mafia heroine). i enjoyed reading this

I read the first 2 and stopped a few chapters into the 3rd. They are well written but for me they just weren't that good. I found the main female character very dislikable and as all 3 are narrated by only her side this kind of ruined them for me, I couldn't stand her in the end and stopped reading. She's vain, petty, sly, bitchy and while I think the author meant for her to come across as ambitious and strong it didn't work for me. She came across as a fake, complaining, petulant pain in the backside and the more I read the more I disliked her. Rest of the characters were good. Plus I found it a little dull in most parts, both books heavily focus on the workings of the mafia itself and her trying to grab as much as she can for herself - not the relationship between the 2 main characters, it doesn't develop or even appear much and there's hardly any romance or sex in it. On the whole I didn't think much of it and wouldn't recommend.

I disagree, she is supposed to seem to have the mindset of a made man or capo. And, some books aren't always about sex and romance. this one has more depth and suspense built into it. They aren't gonna fuck like bunnies within the first chapter. This book has a lot of twists and turns with the journey, and it has suspense. Sure, there isn't as much romance in this, but that's why there are two other books. I 100% would recommend this series.
