These characters exhausted me. No sexy parts, just a head's up. He's an insecure dweeb type, living in his pal's shadow and way too dependent on that friendship. It's like the air force guy is his only friend--which is sad. The hero/male lead comes off like the lead in a Woody Allen film. Nebbish, self deprecating, insecure----that can be a nice change up from all the alpha books--it was just a bit overboard here. Her, I can't even begin. Everything is convoluted and complicated and no one can know the 'secret' so it just builds and builds on this conflict then, bam, the most lackluster anticlimatic conclusion ever. In the interest of fairness, author writes at least competently, if not evocatively. No spelling errors or grammar faux pas. She did her research in that the if you google some of the foods/words you get the formal Russian version. she knew enough to use the colloquial Ukraine instead. I'd be interested in reading her again in a 'meatier' story.
