I’ve silently pined for the gargoyle gardener ever since I moved into this beautiful castle-turned-apartment building three years ago. Unfortunately, the only time we’ve ever spoken, my big dumb mouth prattled on about the girthy tree my arms were slung around. So, instead of embarrassing myself further, I do yoga on my balcony every morning, hoping to catch his eye.

The savory scents of culinary creations are not the only things to waft from the human woman’s window. From my perch, I hear her tormented dreams. After three long years of waiting, she lets slip a name. It’s been centuries since I left violence in the past, but for her, I do what I must. When I return, I finally knock on her door.

I require vengeance for all the mornings she spent taunting me from her balcony.
