When my village is threatened by a mutant gang, the elders turn to the Mercenaries Guild for assistance. The Mercs are the deadliest warriors in the whole galaxy, but their services come at a cost. And when my village can’t pay the fee, the Mercs suggest a different form of payment…

Now I’m standing on the stage with the other females of my village, waiting for the warriors to make their choice. I’m not worried. I know they won’t pick me, the grubby little miner with a bad attitude and tats.
So why is the Merc leader stopping right in front of me? Why is his rough finger lifting my chin? And why is that deep, rumbling voice speaking the words I never wanted to hear?
