Mercy Thompson, car mechanic and shapeshifter, must face her greatest fears in this chilling entry in the #1 bestselling series.

The vampire Wulfe is missing. Since he’s deadly, possibly insane, and his current idea of “fun” is stalking me, some may see it as no great loss. But, warned that his disappearance might bring down the carefully constructed alliances that keep our pack safe, my mate and I must find Wulfe—and hope he’s still alive. As alive as a vampire can be, anyway.
But Wulfe isn’t the only one who has disappeared. And now there are bodies, too. Has the Harvester returned to the Tri-Cities, reaping souls with his cursed sickle? Or is he just a character from a B horror movie and our enemy is someone else?
The farther I follow Wulfe’s trail, the more twisted—and darker—the path becomes. I need to figure out what’s going on before the next body on the ground is mine.

I really didn't know what to expect , with this one. I'm a long time fan of Briggs but not all her books work for me. This one did . I'm cautiously looking forward to the next book. Weren't Mercy and Adam trying for a baby or did I just imagine that plot point a book or two ago ?

They were never trying for a baby...Mercy just mentioned that she wouldn't mind having one.

I enjoyed the book. While I like the main character I'm also interested in filling out the side characters like Tad and Zee Adelbirtsmiter.
I love the way actions by Mercy and Adam are having wider ramifications. The relationships between the goblins, the vampires and the white witches are shifting into a new status quo.

I love the series but this book fell flat in my opinion. Lots of info dumps, lots of lose ends and plot holes. Characters acting way out of character for unecessary drama. A plot that goes pretty much no where with a sub plot from another character acting out of character for pretty, pathetic revenge that really makes no sense if you read Silence Fallen. The entire book feels like it was just filler or even fanfic more than canon. Smoke Bitten was better and I didn't even care much for that one either.

Mercy was a quivering mess throughout most of it. She doesn't need to be tough all the time but again, most of the characters were just... off.
