My boss stabbed my heart when he shipped me across country to fix a mistake we made.
He slept with me, knowing that I was his daughter’s best friend.
That jerk has no idea I’ve kept a secret from him for years.
He doesn’t know there’s a little boy whose eyes look just like his.
If only my disappearance was permanent, he would remain a secret.
But I’m back in New York.
And every breath I take reminds me of the time Henry pinned me against the wall and got me pregnant.
I must make sure that never happens again.
Especially now that I’m in a crisis, and he’s the only one that can help me.
The guilt eats at me every time he comes close.
But this silver fox will soon bear the consequences he hoped to escape all those years ago.
Coming face to face with his own flesh and blood would lead to a decision that might break not two… but three hearts.

Silver Fox's Secret Baby, Book 20 of the Heart of Hope series, was about 48-year-old Henry Banion, the CEO of his own company, and 26-year-old Samantha Layton, his daughter's BFF. While working as an intern for Henry's business, Samantha ended up having an affair with him that lasted several months. When he invited her to his home in the Hamptons, she thought he was ready to confess his love for her. What he told her instead was that they were over, and he was sending her to work on the other side of the continent, and that she should never contact him again. What neither of them knew at the time was that she was pregnant with his baby. She didn't learn that until after moving to Seattle. Five years later, Samantha was back in New York for her mother's funeral, only to learn that her father had somehow stolen her inheritance that her mom was supposed to leave her, as well as her childhood home, leaving her without a job, money, or a place to live. Her BFF talked to her dad, Henry, and told him what was going on after Samantha had confided in her. Henry decided to create a job for her with his company and to offer her and her son a place to live, still not knowing that Paxton was his child too. There was so much angst and drama in this book that it was well OTT and drawn out to the point that a good deal of it became fluff. The repetition in the book was overwhelming, as was all of the hurt, anger, and frustration. Both of the main characters did a tremendous amount of push and pull, and the emotions were so overwhelming that reading the story felt like wading through quicksand. I can't say that Samantha was 100% innocent or without blame because she did make her share of mistakes in the relationship. While it was understandable that she was afraid of any fallout from revealing her secrets, she still took too long to do so and therefore suffered the consequences of her silence. Neither Samantha nor Henry was free from blame, although at least she owned her mistakes and faced the consequences head-on. When the truth finally came out about what really happened five years earlier and the results of that fallout, fingers were being pointed in every direction but the right one. There were times when I liked Henry's character, but there were more times when I thought that Samantha needed to walk away from him and never look back. The things he said and did to her, both five years before and in the present circumstance were hateful, cruel, wrong, and so unnecessary. The man was a total coward almost to the end of the book. I couldn't give this a five-star rating because it was so full of fluff, repetition, and so long that it became boring very fast. It also had some issues that were not just unresolved, but basically whitewashed and tidily tucked away without really seeing them to completion. That was disappointing, especially as the author made such a bit to do over it. Because of that, I could only give it a 3.5-star rating, rounded down to a three-star rating.

First time to read this author's book and DNF--hurts my eyes to finish. The FMC is 'intelligent' when it comes to her job but not so good when it comes to her son. Oh and the story is a cliché. 🙄🙄
