I never wanted to live anywhere else but Dogwood Falls.
Small-town life’s not for everyone, but it’s for me. I’ve watched plenty of my friends move away to find fancy jobs
and spouses in the big city.
But I’m sticking right here.
I take a job delivering packages, supplies, documents, and any other necessary items to our remote mountain dwellers. I like it. It doesn’t pay that great, but it’s enough to live modestly.
And then one day I deliver a package to the old Barrett place…and he comes around the corner, brandishing a rifle and telling me to get off his property.
Kemp Farris. Ex-SEAL. Gorgeous and manly and, once he has figured out why I’m there and put down the rifle, really sweet.

It’s been hard for me to be around a lot of people ever since I left the SEALs. Combat leaves its mark.
Even working remotely at my cybersecurity job in Virginia Beach was too tough.
I’ve bought a remote cabin in the mountains of North Carolina and put in the fastest satellite internet service I could get.
It’s beautiful here, and very quiet. I’ve resigned myself to not having the kind of life I always thought I’d have.
I order some supplies to be delivered by a courier/package delivery service — pricey, sure, but worth it to me.
My stuff’s delivered by the most gorgeous woman I’ve ever seen, and suddenly the life I’ve got doesn’t seem so bad.
But will I ever be worthy of Corina?
