They weren’t supposed to meet. They weren’t even on the same social ladder. But when she stumbles into his life on the anniversary of his wife’s death, he sees it as a sign.

Taking Grace from the streets should be simple. You’d think she’d be grateful, but she forces me to make decisions that’ll haunt her forever. She refuses to comply and is a constant headache, yet for some reason, I can’t give her up.
She appeared like an angel on the anniversary of my wife’s death. She’s a sign, a reason to keep breathing a little while longer.
But my new toy doesn’t want to play ball, leaving me no option but to end her.
And even that causes me a headache.

I witnessed something terrible, and Ivan took me against my will to punish me.
Now, he’s using me to remind himself of his dead wife.
He’s rude, arrogant, and clearly a dangerous man. I’ll get away from him if it’s the last thing I do.
All I know for sure is one of us will end up dead, and I’m praying it isn’t me.
