Nathan Mercer, the only man in my life. Loving him was never an option.

We met ten years ago, when we started at the same company on the same day.
Both new in town and with nobody else to rely on, we quickly became friends.
And while Nathan went on to rule San Francisco, I’m still doing the same job with the same people.
We finish each other’s sentences, we spend Christmas together and he sleeps at my house more than his.
He’s beautiful…. beyond belief.
In another life, he’s probably my soul mate.

However, lately things have changed. He’s started looking at me differently.
His eyes drop to my lips as I speak. His hugs are tighter…. longer.
Our fights are more passionate, his jealousy insane.
I know it’s all in my head….it has to be.
They say to never love someone who treats you like you’re ordinary.
I don’t. To him I’m a queen.
But our story is complicated. And as much as I love Nathan Mercer with all of my heart. . . He’s the one man I can never have.

I fail to see how the author chose to use British spelling when the story takes place in America (San Fran, of all locations!) and when neither character was European. Also, the best friend relationship was off––who shares an apartment, least of all a bed, and kisses their best friend whenever they hang out?

At first reading this I thought wow hes wayyy too possessive. They fought over the stupidest things to. It just drug on in parts where she kept having doubts, kept rehashing the same problems over and over.

Something which is not mentioned in the synopsis but should be- The hero is gay and he starts feeling attracted to his best friend that's why their love is kinda forbidden.

I thought the same thing. I thought it was stupid to think she wouldn't have doubts. She's the first woman he's been intimate with and he was still friends with he's ex love. If she didn't have any doubts this story would be too farfetched. Nathan was gay plain and simple. He was only sleeping with men. What else is it called? It never mention any women. So, the part about a deeper love feeling inside is bull. Otherwise, it would've been men and women. I don't know how having an orgy twice solved his problems. He was still spoiled and selfish. And, why did she apologize? She's not the one who couldn't say he didn't still love his ex. She was too submissive in this story. Nathan was a bully and wanted things to go his way all the time. His brother calling her prejudice was a low blow. I would assume he might get back with his ex if she was a woman. Especially, if I found out they were still communicating because this is his first love. And, the man came and told him that he was still in love with him in her face. Nathan never denied loving him.
