Brenda has had enough. With every project, a new woman comes in eyeing her man candy. She thought it would be easier to deal with after they married, but watching women drool over her man while she tried to maintain professionalism is too much for her. She trusts him because he almost seems oblivious to it, but she’s afraid the next woman is going to catch a nail gun to the head.

Dane for the life of him can’t figure out what’s wrong with his wife. Things have been amazing since the day he conned her into marrying him, and he couldn’t be happier. She, on the other hand, seemed to be out of sorts.

While on a job out of town, Brenda gives their boss her notice without telling Dane. Crushed and thoroughly pissed off, he’s got a one-track mind, and that’s nailing his wife then figuring out what’s bothering her. There’s just one problem—she’s missing.

Nailing My Wife, Book 2 of the Rough Hands series, was about Dane and Brenda. They both worked for Benedict (from Book 1). Dane was the foreman and Brenda was the personal assistant to Benedict. Brenda had been working for Benedict for six years, and Dane had been there for 3 when they first hooked up. By the time this book started, it was 18 months later and they were married to each other. Both were OTT jealous of anyone who looked at either of them, which was where this storyline came into play. Apparently, Brenda was jealous of any woman who looked at Dane, and she was afraid she was about to lose him. That made for a very tense relationship between them. After 18 months of marriage, Brenda was starting to feel the pressure of an insane (and unwarranted) jealousy every time a female client entered the office and spoke to Dane. It had gotten to the point that she was ready to hand in her notice and possibly even call it quits on her marriage. On the other hand, Dane was also experiencing jealousy with the male clients who showed too much interest in Brenda, although he had a better handle on it than she did. While neither of them was giving the other any cause to doubt their faithfulness, Brenda was losing control of her emotions where her husband was concerned...and she didn't know how to talk to him about it. Dane was due to leave for a week to work on a project out of town for a woman who kept making moves on him that was quite apparent to everyone who looked. Brenda wasn't comfortable with the plan but couldn't ask him not to go. Dane, for his part, didn't want to work for the woman either because she made him uncomfortable. Thankfully, his boss, who was aware of what Brenda was feeling, allowed Dane to return after only having been on site for a day...but while on his way home, he tried to contact Brenda, and was unable to get ahold of her. So he called Ben, who told him she wasn't at work either, which caused them both to start panicking. Ben made it to Dane's home before he did. Unknown to both men, Brenda had woken to an intruder in her home the night before and, when she told the stranger to leave, he said, "No", and that was the last she knew before she blacked out. After the building manager let Ben into Dane's home, they found that she was gone but all her things were still there, including her phone and purse. Ben called the police, who said they were sending someone immediately. While waiting for the police, Ben told Dane about Brenda handing in her two weeks' notice, and while doing so, he was checking her phone, only to come across an unsent message to Dane that simply said one word...and that was enough to tell Dane where to look for Brenda. This novella had the potential to be a really good suspenseful romance. However, the author didn't take advantage of the material she had before her and let it go flat before it could even take off. If the novella had been 3-5 chapters longer, then it would have allowed her to build on the theme she started with. Unfortunately, that did not happen and therefore the reader was left a bit disappointed. The emotions of the story were all one could hope for in such a book. There was a high level of angst and drama, a bit of unwarranted jealousy, but warranted fear as well. The characters also had such potential but, again, the author didn't build on it. There was the feeling of being dropped into the middle of a story with very little background information on anyone. The intimate relationship between the two main characters again happened at a rapid pace, which took the thrill of the spice away from their interactions. Once again, it was like watching a porno that was all just a "wham-bam-thank you, ma'am" connection. The reader was told next to nothing about anyone, other than how old Dane was (I don't recall there ever being a mention of Brenda's age though), and the fact of how long each had been employed by Ben. The suspense that the author threw into the mix was a great idea that ended too abruptly. There was nothing really that spoke of why things happened the way they did, or even why Brenda was chosen. It was just like a bridge that came out of nowhere and went nowhere in particular...it just vanished without a trace...and thus it was suspense without a true conclusion. With all that said, it was an "okay" novella. It just needs some tweaking to be a really good novel. Because of the issues mentioned above, the book didn't earn more than a 2.5-star rating, rounded up to three.
