My Wicked Earl, Book 5 (or 6 if you include the prequel "Earl of Sussex") of the Wicked Lords of London series, was about Lord Rex Abelman, Earl of Casterly, and Lady Daffodil "Petal" Chase, sister to Lord Jacob Chase, the Earl of Westcliff and Her Grace Violet Riley, the Duchess of Waverly. Daffodil and Jacob had been left at the family estate while their elder sister, Violette, and their mother traveled to various places in search of a suitor for Violette. They all knew that it was paramount for Violette to marry someone wealthy in order to save their family from going hungry and losing the rest of their belongings, including their home. What they didn't know is that Violette had already made a match with a Duke. Rex had been asked by his best friend to Theo, the Duke of Waverly, to travel to the Chase's London townhouse and escort Violett's brother and sister to the Duke's home so that they might attend his wedding to Violette. When Rex arrived at the Chase home he found that things were not in a good state. Though he had sworn never to marry, Rex was quite taken with Petal at first glance, and she with him. Unforeseen circumstances occurred, though, before they could travel from London to Theo's home that put many things in a different light for both of them. There was a lot of chemistry flowing between Rex and Petal as well as a smoldering passion waiting to be unleashed. The angst and drama were mild in comparison to some of the other books in the series, but there was a touch more humor. Sidenote: there were many words used in this story that were not known during the era in which it took place. For instance, the word "teenager" was not coined until 1922, and then it was used in American English, not British English. The word "teener" was first used in 1894, again in American English, and the word "teen" had been used as a noun to mean "teen-aged person" in 1818, though this was not common before 20c, again only in American English. The use of modern language rather than words common for the time period detracted from the validity of the story, thus making it drop in the star rating and removing any possibility of it being added to the Keeper for the Shelves collection. Such books need to be accurate for the era in which they are written.
