My Ex-Boyfriend's Dad was about Harper Black, a 29-year-old single mother of one, and Owen Thorpe, a 45-year-old doctor, and the father of Harper's ex-boyfriend. Her Ex-boyfriend was an abusive drunk and FMC had "battered wives syndrome", and always made excuses for him, even though they had only dated for six months. Although she sometimes worked together with the MMC, he hadn't been aware she was dating his son until he went on vacation with his son, her, and her child, Lily. However, he was instantly attracted to her the first time he saw her (at work, not with his son). There was so much angst and drama in this story that it was more of an overload than OTT. It was drawn out to the point that I had to put the book down and walk away for a while. On top of the angst and drama was the very poor writing regarding the child. A four-and-a-half-year-old who still needed a sippy cup and a diaper bag? One who doesn't like french fries, but was "trying to tell us that in the only way she knows how" by throwing them on the floor of the restaurant)? Can't she TALK?! The kid was throwing a tantrum. She wasn't a BABY who couldn't talk...was she?! The FMC had to juggle her "purse, the diaper bag, her sippy cup", and CARRY a 4-year-old child? Couldn't she WALK?! The FMC needed a BABY MONITOR...for her nearly five-year-old child?! This kid slept 90% of the time, and was carried around in her CAR SEAT?! An almost 5-year-old child ate pancakes because "using silverware was difficult for some little ones."?! The MMC "cooed" at her?! The child woke up "fussy" and...he bounced her to calm her?! Then, when the MMC's son (the former boyfriend) found out about them, the MMC told him to calm down because he was "scaring the baby"?! Who carries a nearly five-year-old around on their hip?! Can't most four-and-a-half-year-old kids get dressed without a parent having "to hold her between my knees as she squirmed to run away"?! This was a nearly non-verbal child of almost tive, who acted and talked more like a two-year-old. Did this author not have ANY clue as to how a FOUR-AND-A-HALF-YEAR-OLD CHILD truly acted?! The issues with the kid took up a great deal of the story, and most of it could have been left out, thus shortening the book by several chapters. During their vacation, the MMC's son yelled at and then hit the FMC. He never apologized for his actions, and he was extremely verbally abusive as well. The FMC broke up with her BF...and then slept with his dad immediately afterward. The vacation was cut short and after returning home, the MMC and the FMC became a couple, only to be stalked and harassed by her ex. Things went from bad to worse before the end, and even the last two chapters were enough to confuse the reader as to why the author chose to take the story down that path. First, in Chapter 1, the MMC's ex-wife's name had been written as Nancy, then later in Chapter 13, it changed...to Helen. There were so many issues with this story that it made the book less enjoyable than it could have been. The author's writing style was a bit juvenile, and it was almost as if she didn't do the research on the subject matters that were included in the book. It was all more than a little convoluted and just a plain mess. I couldn't give it more than a two-star rating.
