His Son’s Ex by K.C. Crowne
Crashing my ex’s wedding was for closure…
Until his plastic bride called me fat in front of everyone.
Three hundred witnesses. Dead silence.
That’s when the Mafia king put her in her place.
Dante Bellacino.
Devil in an Armani suit.
My ex’s father.
He shuts her up with a single look.
“Apologize,” he growls.
Then turns to me like I’m the last sin he’ll ever commit.
“You’re staying.”
I should run.
But fate traps us in an elevator between floors—
And that’s where I get my first taste of sweet submission.
Now I’m working for him.
Trapped in his world.
His rules.
My ruin.
Because the man who owns my body…
Who touches me like I’ll break,
And ruins me like I won’t…
Might be the one behind a murder that shattered my world.
And falling for him?
Might be my deadliest mistake.

3/5. It’s decent. An interesting story with somewhat realistic consequences and actions. But the characters became quite annoying toward the end. I don’t know what happened, but Eva’s choices just got more and more frustrating. I understand her reasons, but the actions she took—especially trusting people she had every reason not to—made her seem foolish. Despite being written and referenced as a brilliant character, she definitely wasn’t making brilliant choices.
It seems to be a recurring theme with female characters, especially when pregnant, to throw themselves into the most dangerous situations. But in this case, Eva was just plain dumb. You have a child, and you trust information from the enemy—even after questioning it and suspecting it might be a trap—just because you’re afraid of the man you love telling you the truth? I get that you’re wary and distrustful of him, but at least you know he’d never harm you, especially after everything.
The whole third-act “running away” sequence irritated me because it was just the female lead putting herself in danger to further the plot. She literally walked into the trap herself. No dragging, no threats, no force—just her own poor decision. Now she’s captured. Lord.
Despite all this, I will say the book is a decent read. Just be ready to get annoyed with nearly every character besides Hasley (the minor character/best friend) and Dante, the male lead. And thankfully, it isn’t until later that the mother of Dante and Eva, the female lead, start getting on your nerves. I did finish it. It drags a bit in places, but the writing keeps you engaged. The spicy scenes can feel kind of stale, but they aren’t bad.
I liked it. Worth the read.
