His Ransomed Bride, Book 7 of the Tendered Vows series, was about Mason Gatlin, the owner/operator of the local Kentucky bourbon distilleries, and 21-year-old Ruth "Ruthie" (Williams?) Taylor (At the beginning of this book, the author gave a Gatlin Family Tree outline in which she stated Ruthie's last name was Williams. But in Chapter 1, she said the girl's surname was Taylor.)

Having been raised in a cult, Ruthie was expected to marry Prophet Richard Saul when she turned 22. It had been "her destiny" since before her birth. She had only just turned 21 when the man started making his move on her, but her father was insistent that nothing was to happen for another year.

Mason had taken over the Kentucky distilleries from his maternal grandfather, leaving his family behind in Tennessee to run that portion of the family business. When he learned that there was a discrepancy in the financial accounts, he couldn't figure out where the money had gone, so he contacted his older brother who ran the security portion of the family business.

Sometime later, Mason was on a date when he saw Ruthie with a much older man. The situation didn't look good, so he positioned himself to keep an eye on her. When he heard the other man raise his voice to her and then roughly grab her wrist, Mason decided to intervene on her behalf. As he dropped her off at home and informed her father of the incident, he was angry to learn that he was going to do nothing about what the "prophet" had done to his daughter.

The following day, Mason confronted Ruthie's father about the missing money, but all the man would tell him was that he owed money and that taking it from the company was the easiest way to cover his debt. Mason fired him on the spot. But before he could follow through, he asked him about his daughter's place with the cult. Mason learned that Harold Taylor had not joined the "Allegiance" until he fell in love with Ruthie's mother. For them to be together, he had to join them. He wanted a better life for his daughter but didn't know how to get it. Mason decided to marry Ruthie himself and instead of being fired, her father would take an early retirement. Between the two of them, they arranged for Mason to pick up Ruthie the following morning.

Although they were married, it was a marriage in name only. Ruthie spent most of her days alone while Mason either worked or traveled back and forth between their home and his family's home in Tennessee. He never offered to take her anywhere.

This story was so full of angst and OTT drama that it was mind-blowing but in a good way. The rollercoaster of emotions had more than the usual twists and turns, and the plot was excellent. The story flowed smoothly, and the push/pull between the two main characters was minimal. There was plenty of conflict, and the reader had a lot of actions to keep them entertained.

The two main characters were well-developed and fleshed out, with a maturity that rounded them out perfectly. They also had plenty of room for growth and excelled at it. Even the secondary characters were just as entertaining and kept the liveliness flowing freely.

I gave this a solid four-star rating because it earned it. However, I couldn't give it all five stars because of the grammatical errors, the mispunctuations, and leaving some issues unresolved. I am interested in reading the stories about the other Gatlin family members though so I will find them after I finish this series.
