There comes a time in a lady’s life when she needs to take matters into her own hands…

A Scheming Minx
Emily Goodnight, a curiously smart bluestocking – who cannot see a thing without her blasted spectacles – is raising the art of meddling to new heights. Why leave her future in the hands of fate when she’s perfectly capable of managing it herself?

An Apathetic Rake
The Earl of Blakely, London’s most unattainable bachelor, finds Miss Goodnight’s schemes nearly as intriguing as the curves hidden beneath her frumpy gowns. Secure in his independence, he’s focussed on one thing only: evading this father’s manipulating ways. In doing so, ironically, he fails to evade the mischief of Emily’s managing ploys.

Hell’s Bell Indeed…
What with all the cheating at parlor games, trysts in dark closets, and nighttime flights to Gretna Green, complications arise. Because fate has limits. And when it comes to love and the secrets of the past, there’s only so much twisting one English Miss can get away with…

One valid question before I write my review. If Lord Blakely's father is a Duke and, as the Duke of Water's only son, he is the Duke's heir...why, then, is he said to just be an Earl? Shouldn't he be a Marquis? Oh, the humor Ms. Anders throws into her books! It sometimes is so vast it can cause the reader to double over in a fit of laughter. "Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive!" Never were there truer words said that would fit this book. This story was so full of angst, drama, lies, manipulation, pain, anger, hurt...chemistry, passion, angst, and humor all rolled into one huge plot...and they just kept coming causing the reader to bang their head against the table and shout...'Oh, come on! What happens next?!" Sometimes you wanted to hug the characters going through a rough patch. Other times, you just wanted to punch their lights out with a swift right hook. There were also some characters you wanted to see the dirt plowed over. The author did not spare the reader in choices of whom to champion and whom to rival against. The ending was not quite as fulfilling as I'd hoped. There were a few things left ... not quite complete. Maybe in the next novel? Anyway, this book definitely earned its place in the Keeper for the Shelves collection.
