Since this book wasn't strictly about the 4 Devilish Debutantes...or even a debutante as this was about a 43-year-old widowed Duchess, I wasn't certain I wanted to read it at all. There was so much love and yet so much heartache in this book. Thomas Findlay, a wealthy industrialist and the father of Cecily Nottingham (first married to Flavion, Earl of Kensington, then to his cousin Stephen Nottingham), became enamored with Loretta, the widowed Duchess of Prescott. Loretta had a great deal of sorrow she was dealing with, as well many secrets. But as a Duchess, she had concerns about Mr. Findlay. Although this was a short story of just 11 chapters, it was chock full of chemistry, angst, drama, passion, and humor. There was also a surprise or two. The ending was a bit emotional, but also a bit short, leaving the reader wanting more. This book will also find itself among the Keeper for the Shelves books.
