He is her enemy, the beginning of her ruin. She is his maddening obsession, and he is haunted by her. Together, they collide in a cosmic explosion, a blurred canvas of fury and passion.

Two souls are bound by a history of hatred that runs as deep as the scars it left behind. Amelia and Caiden, once childhood enemies, have spent years wrestling with the demons of their shared past. She, burdened by trauma that shadows her every step; he, a vessel of his father’s rage, reflecting a bitterness that has festered far too long.

7 years after graduation, their paths cross once more during a wilderness retreat in Colorado, igniting an eruptive mix of resentment and unresolved tension. But when a sudden accident leaves them stranded in the unforgiving wild, survival demands an unlikely alliance. In a landscape where nature is as harsh as their memories, they must confront not only the physical challenges of the terrain but also the emotional turmoil that has haunted them for years. In doing so, they risk being ripped apart by the anger that consumes them.

Yet, amidst the heart-stopping perils of the wilderness, moments of vulnerability begin to unravel the walls they’ve built. Through heated confrontations and unexpected revelations, they discover an unsettling truth: love and hatred are often two sides of the same coin.

A psychological and emotionally brutal and aching dark romance. Themes of survival, dark obsession, rage, grief, loss, parental abuse/addiction. Very heavy and dark. Book 1 in trilogy.

Both Amelia and Caiden are 18 years old in THE PAST ‘amelia’ chapters. This is dark romance but it is dark because of the dark things that happen to the characters. My characters are complex and messy. It is very emotional and in depth. It is slow burn because Amelia and Caiden do not become lovers by the end of book 1 and will stay enemies through over half of book. Not slow burn in a way where there are no spicy scenes because there are a few in there, not to convey love but to convey the passion of rage and hate.
There are some hate-filled spicy scenes due to their own inner conflict, emotional scars and twisted issues. The first chapter scene on page 1 is written to show first hand the dynamic. Caiden: fueled by power, rage, hate, hunger, and control. Amelia: fueled by grief, loneliness, fear and helplessness in her own life. Rage and hate can parallel love and passion in a physical way (which is a recurring theme: how there is a fine line between hunger and hate)
This series portrays the ugly pain of being human. How we make mistakes, break down, make the wrong choice, give into things like destruction, anger, revenge, darkness, desire, self-sabotage, ache, conditioned mindsets burned into our core since childhood.
For Amelia and Caiden, it is a slow burn process. They must learn to heal from deep rooted wounds and conditioned mindsets learned from their parents in order for them to overcome their long standing hatred for each other. They will either let their hatred and anger crumble into ashes, or it will tear them apart. Their slow burn progress will span out over three books.
They’re push/pull enemies, shaped by what they survived and what they were taught to be. Their hatred is raw and all-consuming.
