A few months ago, he was His Serene Highness Prince Vidal of Cardona. Then a man with an obscene moustache and a PowerPoint presentation persuaded fifty-three per cent of his countrymen to vote eight hundred years of Montcada sovereignty out of existence. Vidal would like his country back. He intends to grieve loudly, in three languages, until somebody returns it.
Major H.R. Beauchamp of the Household Division has been quietly seconded as Vidal’s military attaché on a personal request from King James. His brief is simple: keep the Principal alive. Keep the Principal off the news cycle and from going viral on TikTok. Try, where humanly possible, not to walk in on him naked.
Beauchamp is a fortnight in and the score on the last point is two-nil.
Connor Evans lives in flat three. He’s an East End pawnbroker with a love of three-piece tailoring, and he offers Vidal an uncomplicated distraction: sex with no questions, no aftermath, no need for him to be a prince.
Connor has him in bed. Beauchamp has him everywhere else.
