WHEN A DUKE’S DAUGHTER FALLS FOR A GRUMPY EARL, ALL WAGERS ARE OFF.

Just when Lady Lydia Cockfield is expecting an offer from the earl who lives next door, he turns his back on her. And it doesn’t make sense. She believed they were in love, and then… He suddenly hates her entire family? In the wake of his rejection, hoping to mend her broken heart, she travels to London to work alongside the Countess of Baxter in opening a dockside orphanage.

While drumming up funds, she stumbles on him months later, at London’s Wicked Earls Club, looking bitter and sarcastic, also seeking investors but without her same altruistic motives. Lydia, however, sees beyond his hardened mask and realizes she will never stop loving him. And upon recognizing the unhappiness in his wounded gaze, an idea takes root.

She will save him and hundreds of lost children at the same time. And in saving the children, Lord Tempest can save himself. He can believe in goodness again–believe in himself. All is threatened, however, when a secret betrayal comes to light. Will the truth extinguish his hope forever or will it release him from his shame, allowing him to grasp the happiness he’s deserved all along?

The Earl of Tempest is a standalone Wicked Earls Book AND a Regency Cocky Gents Book, but best when read in tandem with Ruined, by Annabelle Anders.

Earl of Tempest, Book 25 in the Wicked Earls' Club series (and Book 7 in the Regency Cocky Gents series), was about Lord Jeremy Gilcrest, Earl of Tempest, and Lady Lydia Cockfield, daughter of the Duke of Blackheart. Jeremy and Lydia's family lived on connecting properties and, just when Lydia was hoping for and expecting Jeremy to propose, he, instead, told her to never darken his door again, told her to stay away from him. He was too old for her (12 years older to be exact), that his soul was too dark, and then he walked away from her. (As a side note: this book takes place about 8 years after the Earl of Baxter book.) A year after he walked away from her, Lydia and the Countess of Baxter arrived at the Wicked Earls' Club to talk with the Earl of Baxter about procuring a warehouse on the docks for a new orphanage. Upon entering the Earl's office, Lydia unexpectedly came face to face with Jeremy, who was also trying to gain backing for a project he was interested in. (Another side note: At certain points in the book, the names of Lord and Lady Baxter got changed to Baxton. Just a heads' up so other readers don't think that the author was introducing new people.) There was intrigue, angst, and drama by the boatload in this story, so many secrets that covered a ton of heartache and pain as well. The emotions in this book definitely ran the gamut...more than once in fact, keeping the reader on their toes the entire time. This book will be another great story to add to the Keeper for the Shelves collection.
