I have a bucket list, but it wasn’t written by me.
That doesn’t matter. I’m still going to do everything on it.
Jump from a plane… binge every episode of Friends without stopping…
And sleep with the cute guy who runs the tattoo shop on 5th and Main.
I don’t know him, he doesn’t know me. But this dirty promise is going to happen.
Lucky for me, Max Savage—what a name for a muscled guy with ink all over his body—is an easy target. The problem is that after sleeping together, I can’t scratch his name out the same way I scribbled over “Jump from a plane.”
Max isn’t done with me. He doesn’t care that I’m on a personal mission. He just wants to see me again… and again… and again.
I want to see him, too.
But it’s a bad idea because he’s distracting me. Can I finish out my plans AND juggle someone so addictive?
I was supposed to sleep with him, then move on.
Where does falling in love fit into the bucket list?

Dirty Promise was about Max Savage, the owner of Savage Tattoos, and Fiona (no last name given for her), a cosmetologist.

Side Note: The Blurb gave a few items that were purportedly on the "Bucket List", but they did not show up in the story, so I don't know where that came from. If you're expecting to hear about the FMC jumping from a plane or binge-watching "Friends", then you're going to be disappointed.

The story began with Fiona receiving a box in the mail from her BFF a month after she died. In it were several envelopes with a "Bucket List" of things for Fiona to do. She was instructed to open each envelope in the order they were written/dated. The first item was for her to sleep with the tattoo artist they both had seen when they were at a bar across the street from the tattoo shop.

While Fiona was a little hesitant to follow through on the Bucket List (especially the first one about sleeping with a stranger), she didn't want to ignore the last wishes of her late friend. So she swallowed her fears and began the journey into the unknown.

Although this story was categorized as a romance novel, it was more focused on the FMC venturing on a self-awareness/healing journey to deal with the grief of losing her life-long BFF. Even though she found happiness along the way, it was a healing venture that opened her heart and eyes to some of the things she had always longed to do but had been too afraid to step out and do them.

Both main characters were well-developed, mature, and had plenty of room for growth. They were able to communicate without too much of a push/pull between them, even when the FMC ghosted the MMC for a short time. They were able to address problems without running away, and they came together in their spicy scenes that were pretty hot. Unfortunately, the author didn't give the characters much of a background, so it was hard to connect with them.

There was more inner monologue than there was dialogue between the two main characters...or any character for that matter. While I understood that this was a book more about the FMC finding herself and moving on from a tremendous loss, it was still disappointing that the two main characters didn't have more time together outside of bed. I mean, they spent time together, but that was usually off-page and only mentioned for the most part. The author focused on the spicy scenes more than she did any time outside of the bedroom.

This story earned a solid three-star rating but didn't earn a place in my Keeper for the Shelves collection. I couldn't give it five stars only because it followed a little too close to the movie, and it wasn't as focused on the couple as it should have been. There were also quite a few grammatical and punctuational errors that detracted from the story and messed with its flow.
