The last thing I want to do with my Saturday is ride on a parade float next to the Longhorn Pageant Princess. For one thing, whoever this princess is, I’m pretty sure she’s too young to be my partner. For another, I don’t like crowds or crowns, and I don’t want to be the King of the Winter Stampede. I just want to be left alone. Don’t seem that’s in the cards, though.
At one year out of the military, I’m still tender about a few of the things I’ve seen, so I expect the discomfort that comes with this duty. I do not expect the woman who shows up to sit beside me.
