The very neighbor I’d gotten into a heated discussion with when I made it clear, in no uncertain terms, that I would not be decorating my home for the neighborhood’s annual holiday competition.
(Which apparently he’s won for the past three years!)
Aren’t grumpy ranchers like him supposed to be more of the grinch rather than one of Santa’s elves?
But ever since my accident, my neighbor shows up day after day to check on me. With each passing visit he drops off a little more holiday cheer than was here before.
His Christmas spirit starts to envelope me the way his strong arms did when he picked me up off my bathroom floor.
And he’s making me forget all of my reasons for wanting to avoid the holidays and love … but is the same true for the widower who swore he’d never fall in love again?
