When I open my eyes, I’m certainly not in my apartment with its pink walls and fluffy pillows. I’m in a cage surrounded by things that are not human. And I’m definitely not on Earth. I’m wearing some sort of weird suit, and the only way I can breathe is through a complicated helmet. We’re being paraded through an alien city, and I realize the cage isn’t to keep me in, it’s to keep the others out.

I keep my head down, eager to get out of this stinking city as fast as I can. Then I see a small suited figure being attacked, and I’m intent on minding my own business when a slender hand emerges from the puffy suit. Four fingers. A thumb. And suddenly my world shifts. Because I’ve seen a hand like that before. This creature is a human female, just like my Queen, and I know I have to risk everything to make her safe. When the sun sets, it’s just her and me against the monsters in the Dark, and it’s hard to fight what I can’t see. But I’m stubborn, and we’ll get to sunrise if it kills me.
